Message Guys

The Z went through a slew of upgrades this winter. I posted some random snipits of things i was going through, so I figured I'd jumble together a rather large post regarding the upgrades.

February-ish...

I knew at some point the Z was going to be getting a cage, so it would need some better seats and some harnesses. A buddy of mine had a pretty good deal on some sparco's and a set of RJS 5points. The sparco's underwent a little fabbing. I know the red's dont match, but I plan on dying the red to an all black scheme.

Moving on, after mounds of power slides, burnouts, and donuts, my rear tires were fried. I got tired of not having any traction through 2nd, so I sought out a good set of tires that would do incredibly well on the street. I dont drive it TOO much, so I figured I'd give these a shot

They are the 'biggest' (in diameter) MT makes. 275/40/17

While trying to burn the old tires off completely, my clutch decided to do the crap-shoot. It didnt take much research to learn A LOT of people like this clutch/flywheel setup

I've been getting big into the data-logging portion of the car. My Autometer boost guage just didnt help out much with that. With the ability to check 'Peak' boost and play back pulls, I installed the Defi BF Boost Guage and Defi Link II.

I thought that was it for the mods for a little while at least, jeez was I wrong. I wasnt happy with where my base boost was setup (~14psi) so I wanted to raise it some. After hopping under the car I remembered how much of a PITA it was going to be to adjust the w-gates. I yanked the motor in 2 hours and 30 minutes on friday evening :)

After the surge of ambition I started thinking BIG. I had made 503rwhp/488rwtq @21 psi on bone stock heads/cams. I really wanted to head in this direction mod-wise. I did alot of research regarding head porting and other parts that would serve my current setup well.

I got ahold of Kyle at IPP and in ~1 week or so, I had a crapload of parts waiting for me.

We'll start with the new OEM Harness, a must!

Now the really good stuff :)

JWT 500 Series Cams, springs, VTC springs

I ordered some carbide bits and a bunch of sanding rolls for the die grinder. I spent the next week (~40 hours) porting my heads and lower intake mani. Here are just a few highlites

I also spent some time cleaning up the upper intake mani, water pipes, and CAS

Here are a few random shots of the motor going back together

heads going on

Cams are in

Valve Covers

T-belt and accessories on

At this point I got a little stupid ;)

I got a killer deal on some RZT manifolds, sorry I dont have better pics of the mani's but here they are going on along with the turbos....Thanks Antonio!

Downpipes added

I decided to get fuel hungry then. Wilks gave me a hell of a deal on some Border Injectors.

What the hell is that?

I did my handy self compression check on the motor and everything seemed to check out, so it was time to drop it back in

The entire time this project was underway, I had ordered a set of leader gears :)

I decided to rebuild the entire rear end with new bearings and etc

I also bought a 1 piece Z1 DS from Z324U

Everything went back together quite well. I've put about 100 miles on the engine since all the work mentioned above. 1st and 2nd gear are absolutely amazing, especially on these badass tires, however my top end is suffering largely because im on stock IC's. Im currently awaiting the Massive's from Ash, and until then I wont have any dyno numbers to throw up. I'm shooting for 600rwhp and 10's at the strip. Wish me luck :)
